Chengdu rewards attention: watch how a panda moves, then take time to notice the different flavours in a meal. Resolve a few arrival and admission details beforehand so a relaxed visit does not become a series of avoidable transfers.
Two airports, not two terminal names
Chengdu Shuangliu and Chengdu Tianfu are separate airports. For a connection, check both flight bookings rather than assuming that “Chengdu” means the same place. The airport operator publishes an inter-airport transfer guide. Choose a neighbourhood base for the walking and dining you enjoy, then examine the transfer from your actual arrival airport.
Choose a panda-base entrance first
The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding has south and west entrances, with separate transport instructions. Its current guide links Panda Avenue metro station with the south-gate connection, and Military General Hospital station with the west-gate connection. Reaching the metro station is not the same as reaching an enclosure. Read the site map and connect your entrance, chosen areas and exit before setting off.
Use the current notice, not an old screenshot
Ordinary admission requires an online real-name reservation. Exemptions have specific eligibility rules; follow the official form for the document you hold. Check the base’s dated notices alongside its service page, as seasonal changes can be announced separately. Wildlife viewing is not a scheduled performance. Stay quiet, do not feed or attract an animal for a photograph, and let a resting panda rest.
Sichuan flavour has more than one setting
Chengdu’s food culture combines sweet, sour, salty and spicy flavours in many ways. Explain your preferred heat level and dietary needs, then ask about sauces and ingredients. A dish without chilli is not automatically vegetarian or lightly seasoned.
Save the complete gate name
Keep the exact south- or west-gate destination and your return meeting point. Do not assume general admission includes every connection or internal transport service.
Good preparation makes it easier to slow down.
