First time in Lijiang: old-town bases and mountain entrances

Distinguish Dayan, Baisha and Shuhe, then understand the separate arrangements for Yulong Snow Mountain.

Lijiang brings canal-side lanes together with mountain landscapes that need a separate outing. Choose your old-town base first, then work out the relevant entrance and tickets.

Start with the complete address

Before arriving at Sanyi Airport, save your accommodation’s Chinese name, phone number and an agreed meeting point. Use the official Lijiang Airport Express (丽江机场快线) channel to check the bus destination before arranging the final connection. Its drop-off is not necessarily your lodging entrance.

The operator announced an airport–Shuhe service in 2024; that old timetable and fare are not a promise for your travel date. For a late arrival, heavy luggage or limited walking mobility, ask the accommodation about the final approach before choosing transport.

The old town is more than one neighbourhood

The World Heritage property includes Dayan, Baisha and Shuhe. Use the settlement’s name when choosing accommodation or navigating. Give one area’s channels, timber courtyards and lanes proper attention before deciding whether to visit another.

Treat Yulong Snow Mountain separately from an old-town walk. It involves an entrance, onward transport and individual activities. Nearby markers on a national map do not establish driving times or the physical demands of a visit.

Separate the entrance from each activity

From 1 January 2026, in-person scenic-area ticket sales moved to the new visitor centre at Baisha; the former southwest gate became a ticket-checking point. The official notice lists the “玉龙雪山景区服务” WeChat mini-program and on-site reservation windows. Check whether cableway or transfer products are separate from admission.

A May 2026 maintenance notice concerned Tingtao Lake, a lower section of Blue Moon Valley, not closure of the entire valley. It does not establish today’s access. Read notices for the particular lake section, cableway and mountain weather.

Two tastes from the old-town streets

Jidou jelly and Lijiang baba introduce local snack traditions. Ask about the jelly’s preparation and the baba’s sweet or savoury filling, rather than relying on a fixed restaurant checklist.

Keep the ticket and meeting point together

Carry the valid document used to book. Seek official assistance if passport booking fails; scenic-area admission does not guarantee a cableway place.

Clear entrances and a considered base leave time for both water and mountain light.
